Don't forget to V+S!

In the previous article, we finished in 1795, when Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was fully annexed. Today, we will focus on Polish independence efforts.

Before we begin: You need to know that none of uprisings I will write about had a chance of success. Polish soldiers were worse trained and equipped than their enemies. They were also facing superior numbers. The Romanticism Movement affected them, showing an ideal of soldier: fighting a fight impossible to win and dying for his homeland.

The Kosciuszko Uprising

To get to the first uprising, we must go back in time to 1794, or even earlier. Already in 1793, Ignacy Potocki, Hugo Kołłątaj (good luck reading it) and Tadeusz Kosciuszko formed a conspiration against Russia and Prussia. In the same year, Kosciuszko was sent to France to ask for support. He recieved none, and he accidentaly told the plans of the uprising to a French general who sent them to Austria, which informed Russia and Prussia. A big fail, isn't it?

On 24 March 1794, on Kraków market Kosciuszko became the uprising's Commander in Chief, he also swore:
not to use these powers to oppress any person, but to defend the integrity of the borders of Poland, regain the independence of the nation, and to strengthen universal liberties

Forces he gathered were very weak: about 800 men. To strengthen them, he issued act of mobilization. He demanded that every 5 houses in Lesser Poland (Malopolska) delegate at least one man armed with carbine (French rifle), pike or axe. He also recruited every man able to fight in the age of 18-28 in Kraków. Because of lack of equipment, the revolutionaries formed scythemen- peasant infantry equipped with long scythes.

To destroy the still weak enemy, Russia sent Major General Fiodor Denisov to attack Kraków. On 4 April 1794, both armies met near the Raclawice village. After a long, bloody battle Polish forces managed to defeat the superior enemy, but, beacuse of their loses, they couldn't chase them. The battle wasn't strategicly important, but worked great on Polish morale- Kosciuszko's ranks grew really quickly, accepting the volunteers from every part of Poland.

On 17 April 1794, Jan Kilinski led an offensive against Russian garrison in Warsaw. Killing from 2000 to 4000 of 5000 Russians, he forced them to leave the city. On 23 April 1794 Jakub Jasinski started a similar uprising in Vilnus. Other towns soon followed.

Despite these victories, Polish situation haven't improved- they still were forced to face a more powerful enemy. On 10 May 16.500 Prussian soldiers joined forces with 7000 Russian forces into a single force. On 6 June Kosciuszko lost the battle of Szczekociny against the Prussian-Russian forces, and 2 days later Jozef Zajaczek was defeated in Chelm. Kraków fell unopposed on 15 June, and Warsaw on 13 July. An uprising forced the enemies' army to leave Warsaw on 20 August

Lithuanian uprising fell on 12 August, when Russian forces captured Vilnus, though Poles were still fighting. A Polish force under command of general Jan Henryk DÄ…browski captured Bydgoszcz on 2 October and entered Pomerania nearly unopposed. They didn't stay there for long- soon they retreated to Central Poland.

During the battle of Maciejowice (10 October), Kosciuszko got wounded and was captured by Russians, then sent to Saint Petersburg.

Tomasz Wawrzecki became the new commander, but he didn't hold any real power, while generaj Zajaczek did. On 4 November, during the battle of Praga (district of Warsaw, not city) Zajaczek fled, wounded.

On 16 November, near Radoszyce, Wawrzecki surrendered, ending the uprising. We all know well what happened in the next year...

The next article will be about the November uprising, 35 years after the final partition

About the game:

USA as a world power? In E-Sim it is possible!

In E-Sim we have a huge, living world, which is a mirror copy of the Earth. Well, maybe not completely mirrored, because the balance of power in this virtual world looks a bit different than in real life. In E-Sim, USA does not have to be a world superpower, It can be efficiently managed as a much smaller country that has entrepreneurial citizens that support it's foundation. Everything depends on the players themselves and how they decide to shape the political map of the game.

Work for the good of your country and see it rise to an empire.

Activities in this game are divided into several modules. First is the economy as a citizen in a country of your choice you must work to earn money, which you will get to spend for example, on food or purchase of weapons which are critical for your progress as a fighter. You will work in either private companies which are owned by players or government companies which are owned by the state. After progressing in the game you will finally get the opportunity to set up your own business and hire other players. If it prospers, we can even change it into a joint-stock company and enter the stock market and get even more money in this way.

In E-Sim, international wars are nothing out of the ordinary.

Become an influential politician.

The second module is a politics. Just like in real life politics in E-Sim are an extremely powerful tool that can be used for your own purposes. From time to time there are elections in the game in which you will not only vote, but also have the ability to run for the head of the party you're in. You can also apply for congress, where once elected you will be given the right to vote on laws proposed by your fellow congress members or your president and propose laws yourself. Voting on laws is important for your country as it can shape the lives of those around you. You can also try to become the head of a given party, and even take part in presidential elections and decide on the shape of the foreign policy of a given state (for example, who to declare war on). Career in politics is obviously not easy and in order to succeed in it, you have to have a good plan and compete for the votes of voters.

You can go bankrupt or become a rich man while playing the stock market.

The international war.

The last and probably the most important module is military. In E-Sim, countries are constantly fighting each other for control over territories which in return grant them access to more valuable raw materials. For this purpose, they form alliances, they fight international wars, but they also have to deal with, for example, uprisings in conquered countries or civil wars, which may explode on their territory. You can also take part in these clashes, although you are also given the opportunity to lead a life as a pacifist who focuses on other activities in the game (for example, running a successful newspaper or selling products).

At the auction you can sell or buy your dream inventory.

E-Sim is a unique browser game. It's creators ensured realistic representation of the mechanisms present in the real world and gave all power to the players who shape the image of the virtual Earth according to their own. So come and join them and help your country achieve its full potential.
